  • From the table, the past two decades has witnessed dramatic changes in the family expenses in the city of Shanghai. We can see that during the period between 1980 and 2000, food and clothing declined abruptly from 68% to 20%. It is obvious that the expense on education has increased by 16%. Expenses on the recreation and health care have increased slight from three percent to eight percent. Others keep rising from 17% to 35%.We believe that there are three reasons can account for this phenomenon. First of all, the development of society influenced the family expenses in Shanghai. It plays an important role in the family. What's more, the increased income resulting in the changes of these phenomena. What is the most important is that the idea of people is the reason of changes. People poured more energy into education. On the contrary, people spent less money on food and clothing, I think they wanted to save money on the house.Through the analyses above the table, we can draw the conclusion that the people's living standards have been constantly improved between 1980 and 2000. It also reflect that our society is becoming stronger and stronger and people's life will be better and better.
