虽然语法规定单音节单词比较级用 er 形式,
（如果这是英语语法考试我会选择 shyer 或 shier - 两个拼写都对)
但近来也常见 more shy 的说法
因此两个说法都可以接受.
例：
Are guys generally more shy than girls?
Shyer people often won't speak up when they want something.
拿单词 dry 为例,
有时我们说 more dry,但有些句子里我们说 drier ：
A feature of Canadian winter is that the air is much drier than in Spring.
Many wine drinkers prefer their wine more dry.（对酒 more dry 是习惯表达法式）
