that jump out from a single station of the alphabet
Could anyone help me understand the term "single station of the alphabet"x14
I found the term in the following sentence,"Timothy Ferris,Richard Fortey,
and Tim Flannery are three that jump out from a single station of the alphabet"
.

This requires more information from you,Bryan.he.(需要更多的资料)
Please read the following and then give us addition background and context,
so we don't have to guess.[My wild speculation is that the three people
named have the same initial letter in their last names, but this may be
completely wrong.]

So yes, they are outstanding authors whose surnames begin with F.(是呀,...)x14
The single station of the alphabet is the letter F.(the single station
of alphabet 是指F)

This is from the introduction to Bill Bryson's Short History of Nearly Everything
(click).
I don't know why he chose the word station (perhaps someone else knows?)
but the meaning is clearly as Bevj suggests.
