定语从句,which指代前面的something.
Which修饰事物,that可修饰人、事物
有时可互换,如:
I have a cell phone that can send e-mail.
= I have a cell phone which can send e-mail.
大多数that可代替who及which,但下面3种情形不可,只能用that
所修饰的名词为人+物
所修饰的名词有only
所修饰的名词前有序数,如first,second,third等
例句:
No one knows the girl and the cat that are sleeping under the tree.
This is the only monkey that can ride a bike.
Jack was the first person that finished his noodles.
I admired the man and his dog that saved the children.
关系代名词当受词用时,可以省略
He is the person (whom,who,that) you talked about yesterday.
He bought the gift (which,that) you want.
Tom is looking for the dog (which,that) Gary lost yesterday.
Linda heard a story (which,that) she couldn’t believe.
