One possible version:
On 24 October, 2009, more than ten college students from Changjiang University in Hubei Province jumped into the river hand in hand to rescue two drowning children, but three of them lost their lives, which aroused a heated discussion.
Some people think it was worthwhile for them to do so. After all, devotion is valuable and should be encouraged in modern society. As long as there is a bit of hope, we should make every effort to do it. So the heroes have set a good example to us. We should admire and respect them. We expect a harmonious society full of love.
However, others think they should not have done that. Three college students’ lives were claimed for two children. It wasn’t worth it. As is known to all, it isn’t easy to educate a college student. Also, the way of saving others was not right, for although they couldn’t swim, they still risked their lives to do the rescuing. They should have shouted to let people around who swim well rescue the children.
As for me, I hold the view that we have the responsibility to save them when facing others’ danger. It’s a matter of whether it is worthwhile or not. Life is priceless, and so is responsibility. Besides, the rescuing system remains to be improved.
