第二题不能参照第一题的问题在于第二题前面已经有了一个可以做谓语的动词sat,之后如果再想用动词,要么用连词连接,要么改成ed,ing等非谓语形式.
第二句looking就是“看起来”的意思,是系动词,用主动形式没有问题,错在不能用谓语形式（而且时态用错了）正确的可以写成he sat back on the chair,looking rather at ease或he sat back on the chair and looked rather at ease.
