  • People are reading as much now in the electronic age as possible.

“In this age of Informational Technology, people are reading as much as possible.”

But it is a different kind of reading. People have less time for book-reading. Although they still read books, they want the books to move faster.

So they choose to read the hypertexts instead of linear texts.

A hypertext contains many segments of linear text. Hypertexts also contain links to other hypertexts, enabling readers to easily explore other relevant materials if they choose. Even public libraries need to lend text discs and text readers rather than books.

另外 text discs and text readers 不太清楚,直接写 "electronic books on CDs" (光盘上的电子书)之类的好了.

However, these new developments will lead to problems.

One of the first problems is that a lot of articles on the Internet are not verified, so there are a few mistakes which will mislead readers.

所以写成 the information in a lot of the articles on the Internet is not verified,

    a few 去掉.

即:so there are mistakes that will mislead readers.

Thus the hypertexts are not so reliable or responsible to the readers as regular books. In addition, some websites are not permitted by the presses but they post the articles to the Internet, consequently, it will cause the problem of copyright.

In addition, intellectual property rights (知识产权) are violated as some websites illegally host copyrighted material.

What’s more, do you consider that electronic reading will make us lazy and dependent?

We only look at the screens rather than touching the regular books, and our feelings of turning over the books are becoming lost.

    regular 换 physical

    翻书实际上是翻页,所以是 turning over the pages

In my opinion, the institution of the rules about the Internet should be perfect so that it can not only be responsible to us readers but also safeguard the copyrights of the presses and the writers.

“institution of the rules about the Internet”是什么东西?

it can not only be ... but also safeguard

    换成

it is not only responsible... but also safeguards...

Simultaneously, we shall emphasize the importance of reading regular books in order to protect and support this traditional sort of “literacy”. After all, books are irreplaceable. In conclusion, we shall pay attention to both regular books and electronic books.
