Canine parvovirus infection is an acute, highly contagious disease affecting dogs caused by the canine parvovirus. It has two distinct presentations, acute hemorrhagic enteritis and non-suppurative myocarditis. It affects puppies to a greater extent, with a case-fatality ratio of 10%-50%. Infection caused by CPV is highly infectious and fatal, is one of the most serious infectious disease threatening the dog-raising industry. In 1977, American scholar Eugster and his colleagues first extracted CPV from feces of dogs suffering from hemorrhagic enteritis. Later, CPV infections were reported in countries like Canada, Australia, France and Japan. This paper reviews the pathogeny, epidemiology and symptoms of CPV, highlights the diagnosis and treatment of CPV and summarizes the methods commonly used in clinical diagnoses and treatments.
