In view of the flare-out nature of the lower tower limbs of the H-shaped tower of the cable-stayed bridge, tensile stress will be generated at the medial concrete of the lower tower limbs when its construction has reached a certain height; in order to eliminate the tensile stress at the medial base of the tower limbs,opposite pulling is generally applied to the two tower limbs. Through manual calculations, this article presents the calculating ideas and essentials of the opposite pulling design at the special-shaped lower tower limbs of the 4# high towers on the xxx Yangtze River Bridge. The method presented here is also applicable to the calculations of the symmetrical brace of steel tube piles of adduction-typed cable towers. This article is for discussions with peers only.
