半系动词也叫做类系动词或者准系动词,也就是说,虽然没有把这类词归类到系动词中,但是它们却能起到系动词的作用.换句话说就是在语法功能上类似系动词.这种词多数为表示状态的动词,像 stand,sit,lie,sleep 等.例如——
* There stands a monument in the middle of the square.广场中央矗立着一个纪念碑.（There is a monument in the middle of the square）
* He stands one metre and eighty.他身高一米八十.（= He is one metre and eighty.）
* He slept sound last night.昨天夜里他睡得很香.
* There lies a river along the highway.沿着公路有一条河流.
* The desk sat gathering dust.那张久闲不用,已经盖满了灰尘.
