1、有些名词可以直接用作状语,不过仅限于表示时间、距离、方式、各种度量等概念的名词.例如：
1）表示时间

2）表示距离
* I couldn’t move (a step) further.我连一步也走不动了.
* John can walk (five miles) (an hour).约翰一小时能步行五英里.
3）表示方式
* You can do it (this way).你可以这样做.
* (All the other way),he won’t agree with you.完全相反,他不会同意你的.
4）表示度量
* This box weighs (five kilograms).这只箱子重五公斤.
* The room measures (five metres) across.这房间有五米宽.
2、介词for常用在不确定时间或距离的名词前表示持续,如：
* They walked for miles.他们步行了数英里.
* We stood in line for several minutes.我们排了几分钟的队.
* The meeting lasted for hours.会议继续了几个小时.
3、当名词前出现了具体的数目,习惯上往往要把for省去.如：
* The war lasted four years.战争持续了四年.
* The festival lasted two days.节日持续了两天.
* The 2012 Olympic Games lasts 19 days.
第二个问题
long 既有副词性,等于 for or throughout a specified period,表示处于“持续一定时间”的状态；也有名词性,等于a long time,表示“长时间”的概念.因此,用在下面的两个句子中的语法成分不尽相同：
1.How long does the 2012 Olympic Games last
——last 是不及物动词,how long是副词短语,用作时间状语.
2.How long will it take by train?
——take 是及物动词,how long是名词短语,用作 take 的宾语

——How many days is the opening ceremony to go before the Olympic Games?（开幕）
