World-wide there are 17 species of penguin,all of which breed in the Southern hemisphere.The diet of most penguins consists of varying proportions of fish,cephalopods and crustaceans,determined by variations in local abundance and by the size of prey each penguin species can swallow.Penguins also swallow small stones,and it is likely that these help in mechanically breaking up the food in the stomach.
