cheat,deceive,defraud,swindle v.t.& v.i.
这些词都有“欺骗”的意思.
Cheat着重为自己的利益或占别人的便宜时而“行使不诚实的手段”,因此常用于骗取钱财等场合.例如:
A swindler cheated her (out) of one hundred dollars by selling her a watch which did not work.一个骗子卖给她一只不走的表,骗走了一百元.
All reactionaries attempt to cheat the people of the fruits of their hard-earned victory.一切反动派企图攫夺人民经过艰苦奋斗而获得的胜利果实.
Tom cheated at the examination,but the teacher was not deceived.汤姆在考试时作弊,但教师并没有受骗.
Deceive着重“隐瞒真相”或“造成错误印象”.在被动语态中或后面接反身代词时,往往仅强调“弄错了”的结果,不一定意味着受到有意的欺骗.例如:
