  • Travelling through the dark i found a deer

    dead on the edge of the Wilson River road.

    It is usually best to roll them into the canyon:

    that road is narrow;to swerve might make more dead.

    By glow of the tail-light istumbled back of the car

    and stood by the heap,a doe,a recent killing;

    she had stiffened already,almost cold.

    I dragged her off;she was large in the belly.

    My fingers touching her side brought me the reason--

    her side was warm;her fawn lay there waiting,

    alive,still,never to be born.

    Beside that mountain road i hesitate.

    The car aimed ahead its lowere parking lights;

    under the hood purred the steady engine.

    I stood in the glare of the warm exhaust turning red;

    around our group i could hear the wilderness listen.

    I thought hard for us all--my only swerving--,

    then pushed her over the edge into the river.

    穿越黑暗中我看见一只鹿

    死亡的边缘,威尔逊河公路.

    通常最好是滚入峡谷:

    这条路太窄了,转向可能会使更多的死亡.

    tail-light istumbled由发光的一辆汽车的后部

    站堆、doe、最近造成;

    她曾加筋已,几乎冷.

    我拖着她了;她是大的肚子.

    我的手指触摸她的身边带我的原因——

    她的身旁是温暖的,她的小鹿躺在那里等待,

    活着,还是一样,从来没有出生了.

    那座山旁边路上,我犹豫了.

    它的目的是lowere前面那辆车停车灯;

    在引擎盖下打起了呼噜稳健的引擎.

    我站在耀眼的阳光温暖的排气变红;

    我可以听到我们的小组在旷野听.

    我想努力为我们所有人——我唯一,而是绕过——

    然后让她走上了边缘到江里去了.
