if、whether二者都可用来引导间接引语中的一般疑问句i或选择疑问句.引导宾语从句表示“是否”时, 两者常可互换.

例如: He asked whether/if Ⅰ would attend the metting. 他问我是否将参加那个会议.

注：若是引导条件状语从句,则只能用 if (意为“如果”)当引导一个否定的宾语从句时,通常用 if 而不用 whether.

如：I don’t care if it doesn’t rain. 我不在乎天是否下雨.

当think, believe, suppose, imagine, expect等动词后接的宾语从句为含有not的否定句时,该否定应移至主句,即否定主句的谓语动词.
