join的用法：
1.加入某个组织（党派、俱乐部、学生会之类的）
如：He joined the party ten years ago.
2.join (sb) in (sth).(括号中的视情可以省略)
如：We are having a party.Come and join us.
Could you join us in the party?
He dislikes joining in the school activities.(这里join in大体相当于take part in)
take part in 一般指参加活动.
如：He seldom takes part in our activities.
至于时态,要根据具体动作发生的时间而定,没有什么特殊用法.
"他十岁时就参加了全国钢琴比赛.He _took__ __part___ __in___ the national piano conpetition when he was ten ."
