  • “Table Manner”:

    1) Don’tsmoke while dining out.

2)Sit up straight at the table. It makes a good impression.

    3) Do not season your food before you havetasted it.

    4) Never chew with your mouth open or makeloud noises when you are eating. Although it is possible to talk with a smallpiece of food in your mouth, do not talk with your mouth full.

    5) When you are not eating, keep yourhands on your lap or resting on the table ( with wrists on the edge of thetable). Keep your elbows off the table.

    6) Do not slurp soup from a spoon. Spoonthe soup away from you when you take it out of the bowl and sip it from theside of the spoon. If your soup is too hot to eat, let it cools, do not blow onit.

    7) If food gets caught between your teethand you can’t remove it with your tongue, leave the table and go to a mirrorwhere you can remove the food from your teeth in private.

    8) Eat rolls or bread by tearing off smallbite size piece andbuttering only the piece you are preparing to eat. When ready for anotherpiece, repeat the same process.

    9) Engage in table conversation that is pleasant butentirely free of controversial subjects.

    10) You should not leave the table during the mealexcept in an emergency. If you must go to the bathroom, or if you suddenly becomesick, simply excuse yourself. Later you can apologize to the host by sayingthat you were not feeling well.

    11) If you need something that you cannotreach easily, politely ask the person who is close to the item for passing itto you. E.g. “After you have used them yourself, would you please pass me thesalt and pepper?”

    12) If a piece of your silverware fallsonto the floor, pick it up if you can reach it and let the server know that youneed a clean one. If you cannot reach it, tell the server you dropped a pieceof silverware and ask for a clean one.

    13) If you or someone you are dining with isleft-handed, it’s best for the left-handed people to sit at the left end of thetable, to make everybody comfortable.

    14) Don’t order alcoholic beverages (softdrink). Drinking too much when dining out is one of the most disliked behaviors. When drinking some beer or red wine, do not persuade too much.
