    Unit title:Supply Chain:Storage and Distribution

    Unit code:DL5A 35

    Unit purpose:This Unit is designed to provide the candidate with detailed knowledge of Storage

    and Distribution in the Supply Chain.

    It also provides a comprehensive overview of methods,techniques and factors concerned with the

    storage and transport of physical stocks and explains how added value can be created in the storage

    and movement of goods.

    This Unit will enable candidates to demonstrate their understanding of distribution systems,the

    techniques used to manage the storing and warehousing of goods and the importance of added value

    in the system.

    It is primarily intended for candidates who aspire to take up a management position in any

    organisation where the supply chain will play a major role.It would also be appropriate for those

    involved in the various functions associated with service,retail,public and manufacturing

    organisations,including inventory,stores,production,distribution planning,demand management and

    purchasing.

    On completion of this Unit,the candidate should be able to:

    1.Determine the objectives of a distribution system from stored goods through to customer

    receipt.

    2.Critically evaluate the methods,techniques and equipment used in the storage and warehousing

    of goods.

    3.Demonstrate understanding of the concepts involved in “adding value” by the way in which the

    storing and distribution of goods is undertaken.

    Credit points and level:1 HN Credit at SCQF level 8:(8 SCQF credit points at SCQF level

    *SCQF credit points are used to allocate credit to qualifications in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications

    Framework (SCQF).Each qualification in the Framework is allocated a number of SCQF credit points at an

    SCQF level.There are 12 SCQF levels,ranging from Access 1 to Doctorates.

    Recommended prior knowledge and skills:Access to this Unit is at the discretion of

    the centre.However,candidates are expected to have work experience relevant to the activities of

    supply chain management.It is not necessary that candidate hold a team leader,supervisory or

    management position.
