More people on road for National Day holiday
Major scenic spots around China saw larger crowds of tourists on the second day of the one-week National Day holiday.Autumn is of course a golden season to be on the road. But some people feel comfortable with a little excursion to the suburbs or relaxing at home.
Autumn is the most charming season in China's capital city of Beijing, when blue sky, gentle breezes and dazzling displays of flowers drag people out to kill most of the day.No wonder the Forbidden City was so crowded on Wednesday.More than 90,000 people, from inside and outside Beijing, chose to spend an unforgettable day there, three times the normal amount of visitors. Most of them still believe that the imperial palaces look their best on such a lovely day.
The same goes for other attractive spots in the country. In the coastal city of Qingdao, nearly 170,000 visitors thronged to the beaches.Sand sculpture displays,open-air band performances and recreation programs took people back to childhood.Even among the hills and vales of Huangshan Mountain, the laughter of 20,000 visitors was echoing.
The holiday is much more casual for people at home, especially the elderly. Many old people in Xuzhou City held a climbing contest on Wednesday to mark the birthday of their motherland. All of them were so excited when they were on the top of the mountain that they couldn't help yelling out "Hello, motherland" to the rising sun.And on the beach of the south China city of Shantou,a 300-meter-long dragon-headed kite flew high up in the sky.Ten local artisans made the country's largest kite to extend good wishes for China's prosperity. And the south China city of Nanning has become a gourmet's paradise, where 12 local chefs baked an 8-meter-long birthday cake for the National Day.
