  • Shanghai was a tiny fishing village many years ago and half of the territory today was remained under the sea. This situation kept unchanged until 1840s when British merchants and soldiers entered Shanghai. Clubs, hotels, churches and streets were built in western style. Frenchmen did this as well ten years later. In 1920s and 1930s, Shanghai was redarded as the Peral of Far East which was the most international and modern city in China.
