Diet plays an important role in the life of mankind.Because of the differences of historical and geographical conditions in China and Western countries,there formed different food cultures in two civilizations.The Chinese and western food cultures are different in concept,target,pattern,attribution and nature and so on.This thesis analyzes the six different dining concepts between Chinese and Western food cultures and cultural analysis of these differences.These six different dining concepts are different values for food choices,different food forms for meals,different sense of time for meals,different dressing forms for meals,different atmosphere for meals,and different ways of paying for meals.The purpose of this thesis is to avoid misunderstanding produced by different cultures by understanding the differences of food culture between China and Western countries,and to improve intercultural communication competence of English learners.
