Avril has been into music since she was 2 years old,performing in local musicals,village fairs and thanks to her devout Christian family,she even sang at church.Until the age of 12 she'd just been a singer,but she realized that she wanted more.She taught herself to play guitar,which turned out to be a new way of making her parents proud.
It wasn't long before Avril had her first taste of fame.when she was 14,she took part in a singing contest in Canada's capital,Ottawa.She won her prize .It was then that she knew she had something special,which was enough to success.From that day on she started to chase her dream.
Determined to be a star,Avril sent a home video of herself singing karaoke to Peter Zizzo,an American songwriter.He was so impressed that he invited her on a songwriting trip to New York.Everyone loved her and she was immediately signed to Arista Records.She dropped out of school and moved to New York to work on her debut album.Fond of rock music,she also signed a contract with company A&R.Her dream came true step by step.
Avril herself affirms that her music genre is Pop,Punk,and Rock,while some music guides and other reviewers consider her as "Punk-pop,Alternative Rock,Alternative Pop-Rock,and Post-Grunge".The reason for the confusion appears to be her punk-like appearance early in her career,however,she says that her music doesn’t belong to any style of music.
It is an universal fact that her music is popular all worldwide,especially some of her famous songs,such as girlfriend,innocence,complicated,and etc.
Avril also had some trouble because she refused to be manufactured by the record company.As she has been stressing all along,she just wanted to be herself.So she refused to do what she was told to say and wear.Just as she says,“ It’s really important that,when I‘m on camera I dress and act the way I normally would.I just want to be myself.I don’t want to act like someone I‘m not.I want the world to know who I really am.I’m sick of people being fake,and two-face.”
